How Things Work
Pine Island Presbyterian
Church is governed by two groups of people elected by the congregation:
the Session and the Board of Deacons. Pine Island Presbyterian Church
is a member congregation of the Presbytery
of Lake Michigan and the Presbyterian
Church (USA). The governing documents for the Presbyterian Church
are the Book of
Confessions and the Book
of Order.
Session
The Session is a governing
body made up of persons elected by the congregation to serve as Elders.
Elders are ordained and installed to the position of Elder and have
responsibility for the oversight of the congregation. Members of the
session are responsible for Christian Education, Facilities and Administration,
Personnel, Stewardship and Finance, Worship, and Evangelism.
Board of Deacons
The Board of Deacons is made
up of persons elected by the congregation to serve as deacons. The Deasons
are also ordained to serve the congregation and the community. Members
of the Board of Deacons are responsible for Caregiving, Mission and
Outreach, Fellowship, and Communion Preparation.
Committees and Task Groups
Most of the work that the
church does is carried out by groups of people and individuals who volunteer
to be responsible for ministry areas or to carry out tasks. Anyone who
participates at Pine Island is welcome to join in these committees and
task groups. Special opportunities are listed regularly in the bulletin
and newsletter.
